Churches founded as a result of the Restoration Movement
attempt to follow the patterns of the New Testament Church. Central to the Movement are the belief in
a unity of all who are "in Christ" and the belief that the Bible the only authority in the
spiritual direction of the Church. The purpose of Passing the Standard is to teach children in these churches about the rich history and the sacred ideals that their churches possess. In this course your students will: return to the early days of the Church to learn what practices were set in place by the Apostles, through the prompting of the Spirit take a brief look at the Protestant Reformation to learn how the reformers, seeking to reform the Church, instead broke it into many denominations learn about several of the devoted Christian men who were used by God to bring about the Restoration Movement James O’Kelly, Elias Smith, Abner Jones, Barton Stone, Thomas and Alexander Campbell, and Walter Scott learn about some of the noted slogans that helped to carry the message of the Restoration Movement learn how a Movement dedicated to Unity could be forced to split into three parts and how, despite those splits, can still proudly cling to the Movement’s two key beliefs Unity of all believers and absolute authority of the Scriptures
