Reflections of Childhood is a collection of special events. Many of the events include activities or crafts that reflect special memories from the author’s own childhood—possibly the same kinds of memories you have of your own childhood.
It is the prayer of the author that the simple activities described here will create similar cherished memories for all the children who will have the opportunity to share in the events.
Reflections of Childhood includes 15 different events that you can plan for the children. Each one is designed to last 1½ to 2 hours and most can be conducted on a very limited budget. Every chapter includes detailed instructions with illustrations when necessary. Supplementary pages are supplied as needed. When props or game pieces are needed, instructions are included regarding either where to find them or how to make them.
“Reflections of Childhood” includes:
- Detailed instructions to create about 15 fun-filled events for children in K-5th grade
- Pattern pieces and construction instructions for activities that don’t use common materials or props
- Enough material to last about 1½ to 2 hours
- Hints to make the events possible, even on a very limited budget
- PDF document on CD-ROM so you can read it on your computer and print only the pages you need, when you need them
Here is a sample of the events you can create for your children’s department:
- Autumn Fair
- Autumn Fair is reminiscent of an old-fashioned county fair. A wide variety of events are offered for the children to enjoy as they “stroll around the fair ground.”
- Beach Ball Mania
- Colorful Beach Balls just naturally suggest fun! Beach Ball Mania creates activities in which the Beach Ball is the Star Attraction.
- Boxcar Derby
- Boxcar Derby is an auto race. The children design and construct their racecars and the “run the race.”
- Journey to Bethlehem
- Christmas time is filled with activity and excitement. Children are bombarded with sights and sounds of the season. Sometimes the true meaning of Christmas may get lost from the celebrations. Journey to Bethlehem tells the story of the birth of Jesus through a series of games and activities.
- Little House on the Golf Course
- Little House on the Golf Course presents a full, indoor miniature golf event for the children.
- Lollipop Extravaganza
- Lollipops are a true symbol of childhood. Lollipop Extravaganza presents activities that use lollipops in imaginative ways to create a unique fun-filled event.
- Summer Olympic Challenge
- Modeled after the Summer Olympics, Summer Olympic Challenge offers a variety of outdoor events, for which the children will win ribbons.
- Winter Wonderland
- Ice skating, snowballs, sledding, gingerbread houses, candy canes, and hot chocolate-they all create images of a Winter Wonderland. In Winter Wonderland, children play in a storybook wonderland without going out in the cold.
